The Twill weave is one of the "big three" fundamental textile structures and is instantly recognizable by its distinct diagonal ribs or lines running across the fabric's surface. This diagonal geometry is achieved by floating the weft or warp yarns over two or more perpendicular threads before interlacing, shifting the crossing point by one step in each subsequent row. Because there are fewer thread crossings compared to a standard plain weave, the yarns can pack much more tightly on the loom, yielding a thicker, heavier, and exceptionally durable fabric.

Twill is the ultimate workhorse of the textile world. It offers a beautiful, fluid drape, resists wrinkles and creasing far better than plain weaves, and is highly effective at hiding surface wear and stains. It is the base structure behind iconic materials like heavy denim, rugged chino, sturdy gabardine, and warm tweed. This makes twill the ideal choice for trousers, jackets, tailored business attire, outdoor gear, and heavy-duty upholstery.
